Bij kunststof spuitgieten met gasinjectie wordt, nadat de matrijs grotendeels met gesmolten kunststof is gevuld, stikstof geïnjecteerd. Op dat moment begint het kunststof aan de matrijswand al te stollen, terwijl de kern nog vloeibaar blijft. Door de gasinjectie neemt de druk in de matrijs toe, waardoor het vloeibare kunststof gelijkmatig tegen alle wanden wordt gedrukt. Dit resulteert in een glad oppervlak en een product met een holle kern. Zodra de gasdruk wordt verminderd, komt het gas vrij en kan het grotendeels worden hergebruikt voor de volgende cyclus.
